SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.S. raw steel production continued its upward trajectory in the week ending April 4, 2026, signalling steady momentum in the domestic steel sector. Total output reached 1.831 million net tons, with mills operating at a capability utilization rate of 79.1%. This marks a notable improvement compared to the same week in 2025, when production stood at 1.692 million net tons and utilization was 75.6%, reflecting an 8.2% year-on-year increase.

On a week-over-week basis, production also recorded modest growth. Production increased by 1.6% compared to the prior week ending March 28, 2026, when mills recorded output of 1.803 million net tons at a 77.9% utilization rate. The consistent rise highlights stable demand conditions and improved operational efficiency across the sector.

Year-to-date figures further reinforce the positive trend. Adjusted production through April 4, 2026, totaled 24.028 million net tons, up 5.2% from 22.835 million net tons during the same period in 2025. Capability utilization also edged higher to 77.4%, compared to 76.1% last year.

Regionally, the Southern district led production with 826,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes at 517,000 net tons, Midwest at 286,000, North East at 133,000, and Western region at 69,000 net tons.
