SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Tata Steel has inaugurated its first scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) facility at Ludhiana’s Hi-Tech Valley, marking a significant milestone in India’s transition toward low-carbon steelmaking. The project, developed with an investment of Rs 3,200 crore, has an annual production capacity of 0.75 million tonnes.
The advanced unit is designed to achieve CO₂ emissions of less than 0.3 tonnes per tonne of steel, substantially lower than emissions from conventional blast furnace routes. It will produce construction-grade steel rebar under the company’s flagship ‘Tata Tiscon’ brand, enabling Tata Steel to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-growing construction and infrastructure segments.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Steel, Bhagwant Mann, and CEO & MD T. V. Narendran, along with senior government officials.
