SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corporation announced plans to build a new tube mill in the Midwest region. The Board of Directors gave approval for the plan yesterday. Nucor will invest $164 million in the new plant, which is expected to become operational in nearly two years.
The new mill builds on the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The mill, located in the largest steel and steel products consuming region of the country, is estimated to have production capacity of approximately 250,000 tons of hollow structural section (HSS) tubing, mechanical steel tubing and galvanized solar torque tube. This will boost the company’s product offerings for construction, infrastructure and renewable energy sectors.
