Osceola Mayor Joe Harris Jr. said the speed of this turnaround has been remarkable.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mississippi County is getting a major economic boost this week, after losing a major employer last year, the community is now welcoming a brand new steel mill to fill that void.
Just a year ago, Denso announced it would be shutting down operations in Osceola, putting many workers out of a job.
Now, Merrill Steel has officially begun operations in the area, bringing employment and opportunity back to the community.
Osceola Mayor Joe Harris Jr. said the speed of this turnaround has been remarkable.
“It was really music to my ears for another company to come in within 8 months, and for it to be up and running, and so that was huge for the city of Osceola and Mississippi County,” Harris said.
Mayor Harris said Merrill Steel is actively hiring some of the former Denso employees, allowing them to stay in Mississippi County and continue their careers without having to relocate.
“That’s going to be very good for the area. We aren’t going to lose any residents, and we can still maintain employment in the area that you live,” Harris said.
Harris added that he is excited for what the future has in store now that Merrill Steel is in Osceola.
