Japan's iron ore imports grew in July : MoF

TOKYO (Scrap Monster) :  According to latest statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the country’s iron ore imports recorded strong growth month-on-month and year-on-year during the month of July this year.

As per statistics, Japan’s iron ore imports during the month of July totaled 12.09 million metric tons. The iron ore imports during the month were up 16.2% when compared with the imports of the previous month. Also, the imports were up by 20% when compared with the figures during July 2012.

During July, Japan’s iron ore imports from Australia and Brazil showed remarkable improvement year-on-year. The iron ore imports from Australia accounted for nearly 65% of the total iron ore imports by Japan in July. The imports from Australia totaled 7.79 million metric tons, rising by 18% year-on-year. The total imports from Brazil were to the tune of 3.09 million metric tons,10.5% higher when compared with the imports during July 2012.

The cumulative iron ore imports by Japan during the first seven months of the year totaled 78.54 million metric tons. The imports during the period from January to July this year were higher by 3.06% when compared with the imports during the corresponding period a year ago.
