The plant will be the company’s second location in Kentucky, after the Lexington facility and seventh in the entire U.S.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Muskegon, Michigan-based Harbor Steel & Supply Corp. announced plans to build a new plant in Kentucky Transpark industrial park. The proposed 50,000 square feet plant would be located next to the existing Bilstein Cold Rolled Steel factory. The finished steel products from the facility will mainly serve automotive manufacturers and fabricators.

The plant will be the company’s second location in Kentucky, after the Lexington facility and seventh in the entire U.S. The plant is expected to create as many as 25 jobs in the region, when it becomes fully operational over the next couple of years. The operations are expected to commence by third or fourth quarter next year.

Commenting on the decision, Michael Weis, President, Harbor Steel noted that the success of the plant at Lexington has been prompting the company of further expansion in Kentucky area for a long time. The company decided to select Transpark for its expansion plans due to several reasons, mainly on account of its immense transportation infrastructure, especially the potential for rail access.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) approved a 10-year performance-based agreement with the company. Also, it has allocated up to $100,000 in tax incentives through the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act.
