SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The crude steel production by Middle East countries recorded significant surge in the month of November this year. Also, the output reported marginal increase during the year-to-date period.
The production data published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicates that the regional production totalled 3.615 million tonnes (Mt) in November this year. The output was up by 7.6% from the year ago month. The region had produced only 3.360 Mt of crude steel in November last year.

Qatar and the UAE notable decline in output year-on-year, whereas Iran and Saudi Arabia reported increased output. Iran’s crude steel production totalled 2.575 Mt, up by 14.1% from the corresponding month a year before. Qatar recorded the largest year-on-year decline of approximately 54% during the month. The country’s output dropped from 174,000 tonnes to 81,000 tonnes. The Saudi Arabian output totalled 720,000 tonnes, up by almost 12% year-on-year. The production by the UAE tumbled by more than 17% from 289,000 tonnes in November 2019 to 239,000 tonnes in the same month this year.
The regional production, at 36.829 Mt in Jan-Nov ’20, registered marginal jump by 1.4%, when matched with the output of 36.314 Mt in the corresponding eleven-month period in 2019. The topmost producers in the region were Iran (26.369 Mt), Saudi Arabia (6.884 Mt) and the UAE (2.442 Mt).
