SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Luxembourg-headquartered multinational steel and mining company ArcelorMittal won two prestigious awards at the recently announced 2025 Manufacturing Leadership Council (MLC) Awards.
The company's creative AI-Driven "Approach to Investment Assessment," created as a component of the Vega expansion project in Brazil, earned them accolades. The "Business Model Transformation" category was won by the joint efforts of the Flat Latam, Global Research and Development (R&D), and Group Technology Office (CTO) teams.
Since 2021, ArcelorMittal has been making investments to expand the Vega factory in Santa Catarina in order to improve its capacity for cold rolling, annealing, and galvanizing. Its production capacity increased significantly by about 640,000 tonnes annually when the new Continuous Annealing Line/Continuous Galvanizing Line (CAL/CGL) officially began operations in June of last year.
The project used cutting-edge technologies, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. It illustrated the business's exceptional capacity to incorporate state-of-the-art technologies into several phases of its production processes.
