SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.S. steel shipments declined in July compared with the previous month, according to the latest data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). However, shipments recorded stronger volumes when compared with the corresponding month a year earlier.
As per data, U.S. domestic steel producers shipped about 8.22 million net tons in July 2026. This was 3.7% down from June’s 8.54 million net tons, indicating a monthly slowdown in steel demand and mill shipments. Despite the month-to-month decline, July shipments were 5.4% higher than the 7.80 million net tons recorded in July 2025.

The cumulative steel shipments for the first seven months of 2026 reached approximately 55.75 million net tons. This represents a 5.3% increase from the 52.94 million net tons shipped during the corresponding period in 2025.
Shipments of several major flat steel product categories gained during the year-to-date period. Shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip posted the strongest growth, rising 13% from the same period in 2025. Hot-rolled sheet and strip shipments increased by 8%, while cold-rolled sheet and strip volumes edged up slightly by 0.1%.
The figures point to continued year-over-year strength in the U.S. steel market, despite a month-on-month decline.
