U.S. Steel Shipments Fall 3.7% in July but Remain Above 2025 Levels
U.S. steel mills shipped approximately 8.22 million net tons in July 2026, down 3.7% from June but 5.4% above July 2025, while year-to-date shipments remained firmly ahead of last year.

MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): U.S. steel shipments declined in July from the previous month but remained above year-ago levels, according to the latest data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Domestic steel producers shipped approximately 8.22 million net tons in July 2026, down 3.7% from 8.54 million net tons in June.
Despite the monthly pullback, July shipments were 5.4% higher than the approximately 7.80 million net tons shipped in July 2025.
Year-to-Date Shipments Remain 5.3% Above 2025
Cumulative U.S. steel shipments reached approximately 55.75 million net tons during the first seven months of 2026.
That was 5.3% higher than the approximately 52.94 million net tons shipped during the corresponding January-July period in 2025.
Corrosion-Resistant Sheet Leads Product Growth
Several major flat-steel product categories also recorded year-to-date gains.
Corrosion-resistant sheet and strip posted the strongest increase, with shipments rising 13% from the same period in 2025.
Hot-rolled sheet and strip shipments increased 8%, while cold-rolled sheet and strip volumes edged up 0.1%.
The July data therefore show a month-on-month shipment pullback within a year-to-date trend that remains above 2025 levels.
