AISI Published Statement on Trump’s America First Trade Policy

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) issued statement on the memorandum issued by President Donald Trump regarding his America First Trade Policy.

In essence, the goal of the policy is to create a strong and revitalized trade policy that encourages investment and productivity, which will benefit American workers, manufacturers, farmers, ranchers, entrepreneurs, and businesses in addition to defending the nation's economy and national security.

Trump's pledge to view trade policy as a vital part of national security and to pursue a strong and revitalized trade policy agenda to address a number of issues confronting the American steel sector was warmly received by Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of AISI. He went on to say that the administration must act quickly to address the threats posed by China as well as a number of other nations worldwide.

The President's directive to examine and evaluate the Section 232 steel tariff program's efficacy was warmly received by the steel trade association. In order to make sure that the program achieves its initial goals, it recommended the administration to take proactive measures to revitalize it.

"AISI looks forward to working with the new administration to ensure continued competitiveness of the American manufacturing industry, especially the steel industry," Dempsey said in his statement.
