SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute, today applauded the passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2026 (WRDA 2026) by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW):
“A modern and reliable national waterway transportation system is essential to the health of the American steel industry, and the steel products we make are vital aspects of America’s water infrastructure. The Senate version of WRDA 2026, which passed EPW today on a bipartisan vote, will authorize and fund significant U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects throughout the country. This will enable the Corps to further invest in improving the operations of American waterways infrastructure, while providing important market opportunities for the use of domestic steel products. We are also pleased that the legislation reauthorizes the EPA’s State Revolving Funds for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure programs, which use American steel products to build and improve public water systems. We thank Chairman Capito, Ranking Member Whitehouse, and the members of the EPW committee for their bipartisan leadership in moving this bill forward.”
