AISI 2025 Statistical Report Highlights Steel Market Trends

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has released its 2025 Annual Statistical Report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the U.S. steel sector trends along with selected statistics covering the broader North American steel market. The report serves as a key source of industry data for businesses, market analysts and policymakers.

The report features statistics on raw steel production, shipments, apparent supply, imports and sector employment over a 10-year period using various tools including charts, tables and graphs.

According to the report, U.S. steel mills shipped 91 million net tons of steel in 2025, higher than the previous year by approximately 5%. Raw steel production also edged higher, totalling 90 million net tons, up 3% compared with 2024.

Also, total U.S. steel imports fell 13% year over year, while finished steel imports declined 17%. Finished imported steel accounted for 18% of apparent steel consumption during the year under review. The largest consumers of domestically produced steel products in 2025 were the construction and automotive manufacturing industries, the report said.

AISI President and CEO Kevin Dempsey said the latest report provides an accurate picture of the domestic steel industry at a time when trade policies and market conditions continue to evolve. The publication remains an important reference for understanding developments across the U.S. steel market, he added.
