Stainless Steel Industry Honors Outstanding Safety and Sustainability Efforts

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) has declared the proud winners of the Sustainability and Safety Awards. The winners of the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards were declared during the recently concluded ISSF-22 Conference held at Shanghai, China.

The winner of Gold Award in Safety Category was Columbus Stainless for the Ladders which led to significant improvement of safety at weigh bridge gate. The Health and Safety Mindset Change programme by Aperam bagged the Silver Award. Meantime, Outokumpu’s SafeStart safety initiative won the Bronze Award.

Outokumpu’s efforts towards material efficiency, cost and environmental improvements through pelletising of light scrap won them the Gold Award in Sustainability category. Columbus Stainless was selected as the winner of Silver Award for the Columbus Water Recovery programme. The various initiatives by Nippon Yakin Kogyo towards reducing packing material waste won them the Bronze Award in this category.

The Forum also announced Award winners from Best Development and Best Technology categories. The Gold Award in the Best Technology category was won by POSCO for the non-coated stainless steel bipolar plate. The weldable sandwich with 3D-profiled core by Outokumpu won the Silver Award. The Bronze Award went to Aichi Steel for its hydrogen fueling receptacle in the Toyota Mirai fuel cell vehicle.

The Gold Award under the Best Development category was shared by POSCO for its stainless steel lined reservoir and Nippon Steel and Sumikin Stainless Corporation for the water supply tank in Yonago. The solar drier by Columbus Stainless won the Silver Award, whereas the Bronze Award was again shared by POSCO and Nippon Steel and Sumikin Stainless Corporation.
