Sonoco Set to Open New Production Facility in Bursa, Turkey

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sonoco, the leading diversified packaging provider, announced plans to open a new protective packaging production facility in Bursa, Turkey. The facility comprises of a design and testing lab. It is expected to start operations in Q4 this year.

The new facility is expected to provide huge expansion to the company’s Sonopost cornerpost manufacturing portfolio in the European region. It must be noted that Sonoco had opened its first such facility almost a year before in Sochaczew, Poland.

The proprietary Sonopost protective packaging offers a sustainable method of protection for wide range of products including white goods, HVAC systems, heat pumps etc. from damage. By minimizing use of plastic packaging, it delivers significant reduction in carbon footprint. The increased stackability feature of cornerposts helps to save substantial inventory space. Moreover, Sonopost are made of 100% recycled paperboard from Sonoco mills, the press release noted.

Commenting on the milestone achievement, Adam Wood, Sonoco’s Vice President and General Manager of Global Paper Products in Europe said that the growing demand for its Sonopost technology has prompted the company to set up a second production facility.
