Smurfit Kappa's Cordoba Facility Completes 50th Year of Operation

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa Cordoba in Spain has completed 50 years of successful operations. The plant produces nearly 750,000 corrugated cardboard packaging every day, whose primary consumers are food and industrial sectors. In addition to Cordoba, Smurfit Kappa has four more production facilities in the region, located at Huelva, Almería, Mengíbar and Málaga.

The company celebrated the milestone achievement at an event held at the facility. It was attended by Ignacio Sevillano, CEO of Smurfit Kappa’s Spain, Portugal and Morocco operations and Carlos Lijó, General Manager-Smurfit Kappa Cordoba. The event was also attended by other dignitaries including Mr. José María Bellido Roche- the Mayor of Cordoba. The speakers at the ceremony highlighted the economic and job benefits offered by the facility over the past five decades or so.

Smurfit Kappa also arranged a tour of the plant, during which the visitors were explained the production process along with the ongoing efforts to boost sustainable and recyclable packaging, as part of the company’s Better Planet Packaging initiative.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ignacio Sevillano noted that the innovative solutions in corrugated cardboard and its high quality of service have transformed Smurfit Kappa Cordoba as the region’s reference. The state-of-the-art technology at the plant guarantees competitiveness, sustainability and long-term future of the plant, he added.
