WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster): The Phoenix-based Schuff Steel Company has issued notice to Florida’s Department of Economic Security regarding shut down of its Orlando plant. According to the notice, 82 employees are likely to lose their jobs. The layoffs are scheduled to take place effective July 21st onwards.

As per the notice, the plant at 7351, Overland Road anticipates a permanent mass layoff. The laid –off positions include welders, machinery operators, metal fitters and crane operators, among others. The Orlando facility of the company had been involved in various projects including the skybridge project and the University of Central Florida Arena. Earlier in 2012, Schuff had informed the state of Florida about anticipated temporary to permanent mass layoff of 56 workers.

During the month of March, Schuff had announced that it is considering closing its Gilbert, AZ plant that employs 86 employees. It also had issued a notice to Kansas State towards closure of its Ottawa, Kansas facility risking 50 employee jobs.

Schuff Steel is a subsidiary of Schuff International Inc- the largest steel fabrication and erection company in the United States. It operates across various locations and employs approximately 1,300 people.
