SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): New franchise hauler contracts for garbage, recycling and yard waste collection were approved by the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners on March 5. These contracts will take effect in 2025, with new services to begin March 31, 2025. Residents should continue to follow existing disposal guidelines for collection services until then.
Service for residents living in unincorporated Sarasota County and businesses operating in unincorporated Sarasota County will be included in the changes; however, those living or operating in the cities of Sarasota, Venice, North Port or the Town of Longboat Key will not be affected by the new hauler contracts. Waste Pro of Florida, Inc. was selected as the new franchise hauler for the Solid Waste North District, and FCC Environmental Services of Florida, LLC was selected as the new franchise hauler for the Solid Waste South District. Both districts will receive the same collection services.
According to a review of recently awarded contracts in Florida, Sarasota County staff were able to negotiate rates that fall well below industry norms. The new technology included with these contracts, such as the service verification system and the automated collection pickup, will provide residents with a smoother, more customer service-oriented experience. The new service verification system will allow the Sarasota County Solid Waste Department to track and monitor collections as the haulers work through their daily routes.
