MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): Weyerhaeuser Company reported third-quarter 2026 net earnings of $61 million, or $0.08 per diluted share, compared with $80 million in the same period last year, despite higher revenue.
Net sales increased to $1.862 billion from $1.717 billion in Q3 2025. Adjusted EBITDA rose 14% year over year to $248 million, although it declined from $310 million in the preceding quarter.
Operating cash flow totaled $193 million, compared with $210 million a year earlier.
ScrapMonster Edge: Higher Sales Did Not Translate Into Higher Net Profit
Weyerhaeuser's third-quarter results show an important distinction between revenue growth and profitability. Net sales increased by $145 million year over year, while net earnings declined by $19 million. Adjusted EBITDA improved compared with Q3 2025 but remained below the previous quarter.
Industry takeaway: Higher sales alone do not establish stronger operating conditions across wood products. Manufacturing expenses, product selling prices and maintenance activity remain important measures of performance, particularly as Weyerhaeuser expects softer fourth-quarter results.
Wood Products Profitability Weakens
Weyerhaeuser's Wood Products segment generated $1.385 billion in third-quarter sales, an increase of $25 million from Q2 2026.
However, segment adjusted EBITDA declined sequentially to $91 million, reflecting higher manufacturing expenses, lower sales realizations for certain products and increased maintenance activity.
Arkansas Timberland Sale Valued at $146 Million
Weyerhaeuser also advanced its timberland portfolio optimization strategy, agreeing to sell approximately 81,000 acres of non-core timberlands in Arkansas for $146 million.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
Weyerhaeuser Expects Softer Fourth-Quarter Results
For Q4 2026, Weyerhaeuser expects earnings before special items and adjusted EBITDA to be moderately lower than third-quarter levels, excluding changes in lumber and oriented strand board selling prices.
The company also anticipates slightly lower lumber sales volumes.
