Tolko Industries Two Week Shutdown at Armstrong Mill Underway

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Tolko Industries announced a temporary shutdown of its Armstrong, BC, mill earlier this month.

The temporary shutdown from September 16th to October 1st is due to multiple factors, including limited access to affordable fiber in British Columbia, weak market conditions, and increased tariffs from the US.

This summer, Tolko announced that the Soda Creek and Armstrong Lumber operations both moved from two shifts to single shifts.

“This downtime will affect many employees in these operations. We do not make these decisions without a lot of consideration,” says Troy Connolly, vice president of solid wood, during the shift changes. “We have an extremely committed workforce at these locations whose families and communities rely on Tolko. We will continue to support our employees during this challenging time.”
