Domtar Windsor Mill Accident Killed Two Employees

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domtar Corporation has confirmed death of two employees resulting from an accident at its Windsor mill. Both the employees belonged to towns south of Quebec City and were employees of a contracting firm who were carrying out major work at the mill.

The tragic incident happened early morning on 26th October, when a scaffold collapsed into equipment, thereby trapping two workers and injuring three. As per reports, the workers got trapped inside a silo about 60 metres high, when the scaffolding installed in the silo collapsed. One worker was taken to hospital, whose life has been confirmed to be not in danger.

The company announced that it has received confirmation from the Surete du Quebec yesterday of the death of second worker, Mr. Hugo Pare. This is in addition to the death of Mr. Yan Baillargeon, whose death was confirmed the day before.

In a press release, Domtar noted that its thoughts and sympathies are with the families of Mr. Pare and Mr. Baillargeon and to the colleagues at the mill affected by this tragic incident. The tragedy has affected and saddened all and that the company is currently focussed on its efforts to support its colleagues and their families. It thanked all those who worked tirelessly to assist in the rescue efforts.
