Domtar Completes FSC Certification Audit of the Wabigoon Forest

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domtar Corporation announced that it has successfully completed a surveillance audit on the Wabigoon Forest for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. The certification audit took place during the week of July 13th. It recommended that the certification is to be maintained under the new Canadian standard.

According to Domtar press release, a total of 4 minor non-conformance issues were identified by the audit. The company responded to these with specific action plans, which were approved by the auditing body. The comprehensive audit process covered various areas including legal compliance, conservation values, environmental impacts, management planning and community relations.

Paige Goff, vice president of sustainability, Domtar said that independent third party forest certification like FSC is most important to its customers and represents its commitment to sustainability. The success of the audit demonstrates progress towards its sustainability goals, he added.

The sustainable management of forests by the company is evident from the fact that its Dryden pulp mill has been operating in this forest area for over a century.

It must be noted that the Wabigoon Forest was first certified to the FSC standard in 2008.
