RDM Group Restarts Villa Santa Lucia Mill, 163 Employees Return to Work

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  After a seven-month shutdown and a period of heavy investment in the plant, RDM Group's paper mill located in Villa Santa Lucia, Italy, restarted production.

This turning point was made possible thanks to the cooperation with institutions, first and foremost the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, the Lazio Region, local authorities, and political figures who have provided their support, as well as institutions, trade unions, Unindustria, and Assocarta.

Indeed, on the day of the machine restart, the President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, wanted to come along. “We have been closely monitoring the situation and I am glad to be here today and see the mill up and running again. Thanks to the institutions’ commitment, the collective redundancy procedure has been withdrawn. We are working to safeguard jobs,” President Rocca said while celebrating the production resumption at the Reno De Medici paper mill in Villa Santa Lucia, which restarted the manufacturing process of cardboard from recycled raw materials.

“It is an extremely significant day for the company and its employees. This is a key site for the region and for southern Italy as a whole,” Plant manager Enzo Pelle, said. “This plant alone accounts for the 5% recycling capacity throughout Italy. Our plant meets both quality and environmental standards. In the recent period, further investments have been made.”

Indeed, ending the shutdown procedure marked the termination of the Group’s collective redundancy procedure concerning its 163 employees, which was launched on January 11th, 2024.

RDM Group is the leading producer in the recycled cartonboard business and the largest producer in Italy, France, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and in the Iberian Peninsula.
