Major plastic recycling plant set for Corby

Plastic Recycling  |  2026-03-27 00:35:20

The plant will have the capacity to recycle up to 38,000 tonnes of plastic each year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  A £20 million plastic recycling facility is nearing completion in Corby, Northamptonshire, with operations expected to begin in the second half of 2026.

Developed by circular economy firm Reconomy under its Eurokey brand, the 138,000 sq ft site will be one of the UK’s largest dedicated plastic recycling plants. It is designed to process multiple grades of plastic waste into recycled pellets for use in new supermarket packaging.

Material will be sourced from Eurokey’s existing sorting facility in Kettering, located less than ten miles away. The close proximity is expected to reduce transport costs, cut emissions, and limit reliance on exporting plastic waste abroad.

The plant will have the capacity to recycle up to 38,000 tonnes of plastic each year. It aims to support major UK supermarkets and retailers in shifting towards closed-loop recycling systems, where packaging waste is reprocessed and reused domestically.

The project also addresses a longstanding gap in UK recycling infrastructure, which has historically led to large volumes of plastic being exported for processing. By increasing domestic capacity, the facility is intended to reduce dependence on overseas recycling markets.

Once operational, the site is expected to create more than 30 jobs in the local area.
