Giant Eagle Introduces New Recycled Plastic Grocery Bags

Plastic Recycling  |  2025-05-21 12:33:12

The move is a shift in its approach to reducing single-use plastics by introducing a new grocery bag made of 75% recycled plastic.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Nearly three years after discontinuing the use of plastic bags, Giant Eagle has announced that plastic bags will return to stores.

The move is a shift in its approach to reducing single-use plastics by introducing a new grocery bag made of 75% recycled plastic. The decision comes after the company observed low customer adoption of fabric reusable bags, which were often discarded after a single use and are not recyclable.

The new plastic bags are designed to resemble traditional grocery bags, offering a familiar option for customers while significantly improving environmental impact. Giant Eagle stated that, when combined with their existing storefront single-use plastic bag recycling program, the new bags will help reduce nearly four million pounds of plastic.

The company emphasized its ongoing commitment to encouraging customers to bring reusable bags when shopping.
