Turkish steel pipe exports surged 11% in Sep '14: CEBID

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): The recent data released by the Turkish Steel Pipe Manufacturers Association (CEBID) shows that Turkish steel pipe exports edged higher during the month of September this year.

The pipe exports during the month totaled 183,160 tonnes, 10.8% higher when compared with the exports during the same month a year ago. The total export value went higher by 1.2% to $146 million.

The largest export market of Turkish pipes was the US. The pipe imports by the US from Turkey totaled 36,657 tonnes, accounting for over 20% of the total exports by Turkey during the month. In second place was Iraq with 36,464 tonnes. However, Turkish pipe exports to Iraq dropped sharply by 13% during the month. The third largest export market for Turkish steel pipes was the UK. The country bought 24,128 tonnes of steel pipe from Turkey during Sep ’14.

The cumulative steel pipe exports by Turkey during the initial nine-month period of the year totaled 1.4 million tonnes, up 2.7% over the previous year. However, total value of exports dropped 3.5% to $1.2 billion.

The largest export destination of Turkish pipes was Iraq. The country’s imports from Turkey fell 20% year-on-year to 254,873 tonnes during this period. The other largest importers of Turkish steel pipes were the US (221,988 tonnes) and the UK (200,307 tonnes).
