Turkish seamless pipe imports dropped in H1 2014: TUIK

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): The latest import statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) indicates that the country’s seamless steel pipe imports dropped significantly during the month of June this year. The combined imports during the initial six-month period too dropped.

The country imported 17,857 tons of seamless steel pipes during the month, 22% lower when compared with the imports during the same month a year ago.

The largest source of seamless pipe import by Turkey during April this year was China. The Chinese exports to Turkey constituted 65% of the country’s total imports. Turkey’s imports from China totaled 11,632 tons during the month.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s seamless steel pipe imports during the initial six-month period of the year totaled 126,273 tons. The imports were down by 11% when compared with the imports during the corresponding six-month period in 2013. The Turkish seamless pipe imports during Jan-Jun ’14 had totaled 141,909 tons.

During H1 2014, China was the top exporter of seamless pipes to Turkey. The imports from China totaled 77,860 tons, accounting for 62% of the total imports by Turkey during the period. In second place was Ukraine with 11,333 tons, followed by Germany with 9,538 tons.
