Brazil's pig iron exports surged higher in August

The most recent export statistics released by the Brazilian Trade Ministry indicates that pig iron exports by the country surged higher during the month of August this year

SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster): According to statistics provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade, the country’s pig iron exports during the month of August this year surged higher significantly when compared on month-on-month and year-on-year basis.

Brazil’s pig iron exports totaled 244,027 tons during August ’15. The total exports climbed higher by nearly 24% from the previous month. The country’s pig iron exports had totaled 196,752 tons during the month of July this year. When compared with the exports during the same month a year before, the August ’15 pig iron exports were up by 54.2%. Brazil had exported 158,254 mt of pig iron during August last year.

The primary destination of Brazilian pig iron exports during Aug ’15 was the US. The country imported 160,281 tons of pig iron from Brazil during the month. The exports to the country were up by 40.4% from the same month a year before. In second place was Peru with 27,240 tons. The imports by the Netherlands totaled 20,924 tons.

The pig iron exports by the country during the initial eight months of the year totaled 1.740 million tons. The imports during the period were higher by 18.7% when compared with the imports during the corresponding eight-month period in 2014. The pig iron exports by Brazil had totaled 1.466 million tons during Jan-Aug ’14.

The largest destination of Brazilian exports during Jan-Aug ’15 was the US. The exports to the US totaled 1.035 million tons, accounting for 59.5% share of total pig iron exports by Brazil during this period. The exports to the US dropped 6.4% year-on-year. The second largest importer was Mexico with 162,081 tons. The other key importers of Brazilian pig iron were the Netherlands (152,460 tons), Taiwan (134,946 tons) and Italy (68,833 tons).
