The new collaboration will help GreenDot to expand its network of mechanical and chemical recycling facilities in the European region.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): PepsiCo will collaborate with Germany-based GreenDot in expanding the latter’s plastics recycling capabilities. However, the two companies declined to disclose the investment amount.
It must be noted that GreenDot is currently constructing a state-of-the-art sorting plant Ennshafen, Austria with a planned sorting capacity of 100,000 tonnes of lightweight packaging a year.
The new collaboration will help GreenDot to expand its network of mechanical and chemical recycling facilities in the European region. At the same time, it will benefit PepsiCo, by allowing it to source larger volumes of recycled plastics.
Incidentally, PepsiCo aims to eliminate virgin fossil-based plastic in all its crisp and chip bags sold in Europe before the end of this decade. The two companies had earlier collaborated on recycled content for Pepsico’s snacks packaging.
Commenting on the development, Laurent Auguste, CEO of GreenDot noted that the agreement is an important milestone for the industry, by paving way towards a circular economy of plastic packaging. Through long-term collaboration between key players of the plastic value chain, GreenDot aims to further invest in developing plastic recycling capabilities, Auguste added.
