SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sonoco-Alcore, part of Sonoco- the global provider of consumer packaging solutions, announced price hikes for various products.
The company said that the prices for paper-based tubes and cores in the UK and Ireland will be increased by 7%, effective from shipments beginning on 18th January, 2021. Sonoco-Alcore noted that the price increase is critical to manage ongoing surge in costs across the business. The continued general inflation has left the company with no option but to pass this on to customers, said Karsten Kemmerling, Director of Sales and Marketing – Tubes and Cores, Europe.
Also, the company has announced similar price hike of 7% for paper-based tubes and cores in the EMEA region, effective 18th January, 2021.
The prices of all recycled paperboard grades sold by the company in EMEA region will be hiked by €60 per tonne. The change in prices will be in effect for all shipments on or after 1st January, 2021.
The price hike is mainly on account of the rapidly escalating costs and limited availability of waste paper across Europe. The company has been absorbing additional costs throughout 2020, said Phil Woolley, Division Vice President – Paper Europe.
The company operates a total of 29 tubes and cores plants, in addition to 5 paperboard mills in Europe.
