SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Nucor Corporation announced that its Board of Directors has approved an investment of $280 million towards modernizing the company’s steel plate mill located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The investment will help the plant to better serve its key market segments. The project will build a new, modern mill stand at the steel plate mill facility.

Al Behr, Executive Vice President for Plate and Structural Products at Nucor noted that the modernization project will bolster the plate group's position as the most diverse and comprehensive product mix in the industry. It is part of the company’s strategy to invest in facilities so as to create value for its customers, he added.
Brian Phillippi, Vice President and General Manager of Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa commented that the modernization and upgrade of the rolling mill at Tuscaloosa is an important investment that will keep its mill competitive in the global steel industry and open up new market opportunities for the team. Furthermore, he appreciated the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority for their support to the project.
Nucor’s Plate Mill Group, comprising of three facilities located at Hertford County, North Carolina, Brandenburg, Kentucky and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has an annual plate capacity of approximately 3 million tons.
