SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Norske Skog has decided to initiate temporary downtime at the Bruck paper mill in Australia. The downtime has been necessitated by escalated energy prices.
The company announced that the boiler project at the mill is in progress and is scheduled for start-up in April this year. The new boiler will reduce the mill’s gas consumption and boost the energy supply. It had secured parts of the mill’s energy supply in early-March. The packaging conversion project is also progressing as per schedule.
The high energy prices are making operations at Bruck unsustainable, said Sven Ombudstvedt, President and CEO of Norske Skog.

Also, Norske Skog announced that it has reached an agreement with Valmet towards supply and installation of Valmet DNA Automation System and Valmet IQ Quality Control System to paper machine PM 3 in Bruck facility. The installation is scheduled to start in Q4 2022.
The delivery includes the system design, engineering, manufacturing, factory acceptance test and installation. The distributed control system (DCS) will cover the PM 3 including OCC and water treatment plant extension.
The Bruck mill in the Austrian state of Styria produces both coated magazine paper and newsprint.
