SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Norbord Inc. - the world’s largest producer of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) has announced investment of £35 million in the second phase of expansion at the Morayhill mill. This is in continuation of the £110 million expansion programme almost a year back. With this, the total investment in the past two years has risen to £145 million.
The proposed £35 million will be invested in a second wood room, heat plant and dryer facility. The expansion project is expected to be completed by 2021. This will significantly increase the mill capacity, thereby enabling the mill to meet increased consumer demand for OSB across the UK and entire European region. The first phase of investment had resulted in addition of new manufacturing line at the plant.
Alan McMeekin, Norbord Europe managing director noted that robust market demand has forced the company to announce the second phase of investment much ahead of schedule. This will deliver an increased level of support to Norbord’s strategic customer base. Further, it will help the company in further enhancing its status as the world’s topmost OSB producer, McMeekin added. Meantime, Jerry Jones, general manager stated that the investment signifies significant growth potential within the European OSB industry and the company’s resolve to serve rising customer needs across the UK and continental Europe.
Based in Toronto, Canada, Norbord Inc. owns 15 OSB mills, 1 MDF mill, 2 particleboard mills and a furniture plant.
