Centerra Gold Suspended Gold Bar Output at Oksut Mine

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Centerra Gold announced that it has temporarily suspended gold dore bar production at the Oskut Mine located in the Kayseri province of south-central Turkey. The decision follows discovery of mercury in the gold room of the adsorption-desorption recovery (ADR) plant.

The company press release noted that it has taken several initial actions in response to the event. For instance, it has cleaned mercury from affected areas, taken adequate steps to prevent exposure and implemented necessary safety protocols and protective equipment. In addition, the company is in the process of taking necessary regulatory reporting steps. Before the restart of the production, the company will evaluate potential technical solutions to remove the mercury in the gold recovery process.

Meantime, operations at the mine, such as ore mining, ore staking on leach pad and ore processing into a gold-in carbon form, have not been affected.

The impact of the temporary suspension on its 2022 production guidance is being evaluated. An update will be provided in due course after a thorough review, the company press release noted. Centerra Gold has produced and sold approximately 54,000 ounces of gold till March this year.
