SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford counties have cemented their commitment to a greener future through a newly approved interlocal agreement. This agreement aims to create a collaborative materials management plan that transitions focus from landfill capacity to more sustainable practices such as composting and recycling.
County controller/administrator Lisa Sagala highlighted the nearing deadline to act on approving the agreement with Missaukee and Wexford counties at a Manistee County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday. “It’s come almost to our deadline in July to send our letter of intent and as part of the letter of intent we have to include if we’re doing a multicounty plan, to have a signed interlocal agreement. … Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford have agreed,” Sagala said at the meeting.
Sagala noted that neighboring counties including Benzie and Mason chose to collaborate with other intercounty groups instead. “We’ve complied with all of our reaching out to the surrounding counties that we’ve made contact with them. And I have their letters stating who was interested (and) who was not interested in participating in our multicounty (agreement).”
