Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- January 24, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly global market price trends for the different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of January 17–23, 2025, are provided in the following report:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a marginal decline of 0.98% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright dropped by 0.95% in the last week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing was down 0.98% from the start of the week, closing the week at $3.96 a pound. Likewise, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped by $0.04 per pound, from $4.00 to $3.96.

USA East Coast

As of Thursday, January 23, 2025, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index decreased by 0.95% through the week, from $4.20 to $4.16 per pound. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went down from $4.10 to $4.06 per pound during the previous week. By the conclusion of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had recorded decline by 1% to $3.96 per pound.

USA Midwest

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright has decreased by 0.98% in the last week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing saw a slight 1% decrease at the end of the week, going from $4.00 to $3.96 per pound. The price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category dropped by 1.03%. The price per pound dropped from $3.90 to $3.86 during the week.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright dropped by 0.93% during the week, from $4.32 to $4.28 per pound. This week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing's price declined slightly from $4.22 to $4.18 a pound. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had fallen 0.97%, from $4.12 to $4.08 per pound.

China

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index experienced a slight decrease during the previous week, which ended on January 23, 2025. The weekly closing price of the commodity was CNY 73,850 per MT, which was lower than the previous week's price of CNY 75,400 per MT. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price declined by 2.16% from the week before. Furthermore, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was down by 2.19% at the conclusion of the week, from CNY 70,700 per MT to CNY 69,150 per MT.

Europe

From the previous week, the weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright remained at $6,000 per tonne.  On the Index, #1 copper wire and tubing was unchanged from the previous week at $5,200 per tonne. Additionally, during the week ending January 23, 2025, there was no change in the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index.

Brass Scrap Prices

Brass Scrap prices witnessed no change over the previous week.

North America

The price of Red Brass was $2.46 a pound, the same as it was the week before. Yellow Brass was also flat on the Index. The price of the commodity stayed at $2.31 per pound.

When compared to the previous week, Red Brass's prices showed no change. Additionally, Yellow Brass prices were unchanged from the previous week at $2.31 a pound.

USA Midwest

Red Brass witnessed no change in prices over the previous week, with prices holding steady at $2.44 per pound. On the Index, Yellow Brass was also unaltered. At $2.26 a pound, the commodity's price stayed constant.

USA West Coast

At $2.50 per pound, Red Brass's price remained unchanged from the week before. Additionally, the price of Yellow Brass, which is $2.30 a pound, did not change during the previous week.

China

Over the course of the week, the prices of both Red Brass and Yellow Brass changed. Red brass registered a marginal decline of 0.65% to end the week at CNY 37,950 per MT. Additionally, Yellow Brass prices showed a slight fall in prices from the week before. The prices of the commodity dropped to CNY 35,100 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded a marginal decline of 0.21% over the previous week.

North America

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire closed the week at $1.17 per pound, a 0.85% decrease. During the week ending January 23, 2025, the price of 6063 extrusions remained constant at $0.91 per pound. The price of Old Cast on the Index remained same from the previous week. In addition, UBC's prices were consistent from week to week.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price decreased from $1.18 per Lb to $1.17 per Lb. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions were flat during the week ending January 23, 2025. The Index indicated no change in Old Cast pricing. Also, during the previous week, UBC's prices were unchanged on the Index.

USA Midwest

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has decreased by 0.85% since a week ago. Last week, the price of the product closed at $1.17 a pound. In the meantime, there was no weekly change in the cost of 6063 Extrusions. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of Old Cast and UBC were unchanged from the week before.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire decreased from $1.18 per Lb by 0.85% to $1.17 per Lb. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 Extrusions were unchanged. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index witnessed no change. As of January 23, 2025, UBC's prices registered no change from $0.79 per Lb.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices decreased marginally by 1.56% to close the week at CNY 18,950 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions were up down by 1.65% from the previous week. The price of Old Cast inched lower by 1.67% on the Index as of January 23, 2025. UBC prices recorded week-on-week decline by 0.81%, finishing at CNY 12,300 per MT at the end of the week.

Europe

For the whole week, the price of Old Cast remained at $1,050 a tonne. Additionally, according to the ScrapMonster Index, UBC prices stayed at $1,250 per tonne, unchanged from the previous week.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded a decline of 1.54% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS Solid pricing trend indicates that the commodity's price decreased weekly. The commodity's price decreased from $0.65 per pound to $0.64 per pound during the course of the week.

The price of 304 SS Solid were up down 1.54% during the previous week, which concluded on January 23, 2025. The price of the commodity closed the week at $0.64 per pound.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices recorded a week-on-week decline of 1.82% during the previous week.

USA West Coast

For the week ending January 23, 2025, the price of 304 SS Solid recorded a marginal dip of 1.54%, upon comparison with the previous week.

China

Over the course of the week, the price of 304 SS Solid decreased somewhat. The reported price of the product dropped by 2.05% last week, from CNY 12,200 per MT to CNY 11,950 per MT.

Europe

From the price of $1,070 per ton the week before, the price of 304 SS Solid remained constant.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has remained unchanged. The commodity's price remained steady at $320 per MT. In addition, the cost of Shredded Auto Scrap remained steady at $380 per MT over the week. The price of HMS 80/20 was $265 per MT, the same as the week before. In addition, #1 Busheling's price remained constant throughout the week.

The ScrapMonster Index indicates that #1 HMS's prices stayed steady during the week at $320 per MT. The weekly pricing for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged from $380 per MT the week before. The price of HMS 80/20 was set at $265 per MT for the duration of the week. The Index's #1 Busheling prices remained constant as well.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices didn't change during the past week. Shredded Auto Scrap was likewise flat during the week. At $265 per MT, the Index's HMS 80/20 pricing stayed the same. The price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged during the week ending January 23, 2025.

USA West Coast

The #1 HMS pricing did not change during the past week. The price of the commodity stayed steady at $320 per MT. At $380 per MT over the week, prices for Shredded Auto Scrap also didn't change. As the previous week, HMS 80/20 prices stayed steady at $265 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of #1 Busheling were unmoved at $390 per MT.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

USA Midwest

The price of scrap auto batteries remained steady throughout the week at $0.22 per pound, according to the ScrapMonster Index.

USA West Coast

The price of scrap auto batteries remained at $0.22 per pound, just as it had been at the beginning of the week.

China

The prices of Scrap Auto Batteries on the index reported no variation in the last week. The price of the commodity were unchanged at CNY 6,900 per MT during the week ended Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Europe

The price per ton of Scrap Auto Batteries remained at $820 throughout the week, unchanged from the previous week.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded no change in prices week-on-week.

North America

New Zinc Die Cast's price held steady at $0.74 per pound. The prices for Old Zinc Die Cast also were flat week over week. The commodity's pricing was unchanged at $0.62 per pound on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast registered no change from the previous week’s price of $0.74 per Lb. Also, Old Zinc Die Cast prices also were flat over the previous week.

USA Midwest

The price of New Zinc Die Cast witnessed no variation over the previous week. Old Zinc Die Cast's price too held constant at $0.62 per pound by the end of the week.

USA West Coast

New Zinc Die Cast prices recorded no change from the week before, at $0.74 per pound. Additionally, the Index showed no week-on-week variation in the price of Old Zinc Die Cast.

Europe

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. The price per tonne remained at $800 as of the week ended January 23, 2025.
