SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Memphis, Tennessee-headquartered International Paper (IP) announced its decision to build a new state-of-the-art corrugated packaging plant in Atglen, Pennsylvania, aimed at meeting growing customer demand in the region.
The proposed plant is expected to provide employment to nearly 150 people in the region. It will allow IP to expand its Industrial Packaging footprint in the northeastern U.S. region. The construction is scheduled to begin during the initial quarter next year, with the plant expected to become fully operational by Q1 2023.

Commenting on the development, Greg Wanta, senior vice president, North American Container said that the company is highly excited to expand its footprint and continue serving its customers with highest level of safety, quality, operational excellence and customer service.
The company had recently received approval from Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its ambitious 35% greenhouse gas reduction target. The approval recognizes IP as a leader in transition to low-carbon and demonstrates the alignment of its sustainability commitments with the Paris agreement.
The company is due to release the fourth quarter and full-year 2021 earnings on 27th January, 2022.
