Innovative Metal Straw Could Put an End to Use of Plastic Straws

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): FinalStraw, a startup based in Santa Barbara, California have designed an alternative straw made of stainless steel. The company claims the new product as the world’s first collapsible metal straw that could withstand up to two folds per day for nearly 15 years. The straw, designed by millennial entrepreneurs Emma Cohen and Miles Pepper, aims to put an end to use of plastic straws.

According to the company, the FinalStraw drinking straw is not cumbersome to carry around, as is the case with the metal straws currently available in the market. The collapsible nature of the straw makes it easy to carry in pocket, handbag or even as an attachment to car keys. The straws come with a specially-designed sponge to clean them after each use. Presently, the straws are available in two color variants- stainless steel and rainbow.

The difficulty in carrying metal straws was the main reason for a greater number of people not ditching single-use plastic straws. The availability of durable, environmentally responsible alternative could make them think differently.

Estimates indicate that billions of plastic drinking straws are discarded every day across the world. The U.S. alone discards approximately 170 million drinking straws, thereby polluting the environment.

The entrepreneurs plan to release a new product line called Foreverables, which targets to replace single-use utensils.
