ANKARA (Scrap Monster): According to most recent statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country’s imports of hot rolled coils (HRC) slumped during the month of April this year. This led to a heavy fall in overall imports of steel flat products during the month when compared with the previous year.
Turkey’s HRC imports totaled 303,000 tons during the month of April this year. The HRC imports have declined by 17.6% over the year. The country had imported 368,000 tons during April 2013. The huge drop in domestic demand resulted in sharp decline in HRC imports during the month, noted TUIK.
The country’s imports of flat rolled steel products totaled 575,000 tons in April ’14. The imports declined by 22% when compared with the imports during same month a year ago. Turkey had imported 736,000 tons of flat rolled steel products in April ’13.
The cumulative imports of flat rolled steel products by the country totaled 1.78 million during the initial four months of the year. The total imports during January-April this year has declined by nearly 15% over the previous year.
