Japanese HRC exports surged in Nov '14: MoF

According to statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF), the country's exports of Hot Rolled Coils (HRC) increased sharply

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): According to statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF), the country’s exports of Hot Rolled Coils (HRC) increased sharply during the month of November last year.

MoF data indicates that HRC exports by the country totaled 920,537 tons during the month. This is 11.7% higher when compared with the exports during the same month a year ago. The exports during November 2013 had totaled 824,115 tons. When compared with the previous month, the country’s November ’14 exports increased marginally by 0.8%. Japan had exported 913,230 tons of HRC during October last year.

The HRC export prices during November 2014 averaged at $548.30 per ton. The average prices fell by 4.6% over the previous month. On year-on-year basis, the average export prices dropped by 7.3% when compared with the prices during November 2013.

The largest export destination of Japanese HRC was South Korea. The exports to South Korea totaled 208,556 tons with an average price of $529.00 per ton FOB. The second largest importer of Japanese HRC was Taiwan. The exports to Taiwan totaled 57,018 tons. The average export price to Taiwan stood at $514.20 per ton FOB.
