Graphic Packaging To Build New Paper Recycling Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Graphic Packaging LLC announced its plan to open a new paper recycling plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Announcing the decision in the recently held City Commission meeting, the company representatives noted that the opening of the new plant is part of its strategy to expand its existing operations in the City.

According to Mike Farrel, Executive Vice President, Graphic Packaging International, the construction of the new plant is expected to be completed in two and a half years. It will have a capacity to recycle about 900,000 tons of paper per year. The new plant is expected to create 25 to 50 new jobs in the region. In addition, it expects to create approximately 1,000 construction jobs over the coming years.

Mayor Bobby Hopewell noted that the Kalamazoo community appreciates the company’s plan to expand in the region. He appreciated Graphic packaging for bringing new jobs and opportunities. Also, he mentioned the key role played by the company in the economic development of the community. A public hearing on the subject is scheduled to be held on Sep 17th at 7.00 p.m., he added.

Last month, the Board of Directors of Graphic Packaging Holding Company had approved a proposal for $600 million investment in a new coated recycled board (CRB) machine in the Midwest region, the site of which will be finalized later. The new machine is estimated to have a production capacity of approximately 500,000 tons.
