SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production continued to soar in September 2020. The monthly production statistics published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) points to 2.9% surge in output when compared with the same month a year before. The Sep ’20 output by 64 countries reporting to the Association totalled 156.359 million tonnes (Mt), as compared with the output of 151.885 Mt in September last year.

The production by Asian region reported 7.4% jump in September, mainly driven by approximately 11% year-on-year increase in Chinese output. The notable decline in output by all countries in the region, especially Qatar, led to 11% year-on-year decline in crude steel output by the Middle East region. African crude steel production too was down sharply by 14% over the previous year. The U.S. production dropped significantly by 18.5%, which in turn resulted in 17.4% dip in production by the North American region.

Meantime, South American output reported marginal increase by 0.9% year-on-year.The CIS and EU-28 regions too witnessed drop in output by 0.3% and 14% respectively.
