Gerdau CEO Gustavo Werneck Assumed the Presidency of ALACERO

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Latin American Steel Association (ALACERO) announced that Gustavo Werneck Da Cunha, CEO, Gerdau SA assumed its presidency in a ceremony held on the sidelines of Alacero Summit 2021 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He will lead the association for a period of two years. He replaces Maximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium, who had led the organization from 2019 to 2021.

The key challenges before Werneck would be to shape the steel sector as a leader of transformations happening around the world and promoting the development of an increasingly sustainable future.

Commenting on his appointment, Wermeck noted that the regional steel industry plays a key role in generating employment and wealth. In addition to being an important driver of economic and social development, the sector supports approximately 1.2 million direct and indirect jobs. The ESG agenda should play a prominent role, especially in the drive towards decarbonisation, he added.

Before joing Gerdau, Werneck has served as Industrial Director at Arjas Steel Pvt Ltd. He holds an undergraduate degree from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and an MBA from Insper Institute of Education & Research.
