SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Peruvian environmental watchdog, the National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (SENACE), has approved the expansion of Antamina copper mine.
The authority gave approval to the Modification of the Environmental Impact Study (MEIA) after a detailed evaluation process. The MEIA was formulated after a series of consultations with various state entities and top-level consultants. Three citizen participation processes were carried out during the period from
The key approval will pave way for investment of approximately $2 billion. The proposed investment will allow the company to extend its operations in the region from 2028 to 2036 by optimizing existing mining components.
The investment will be carried out in multiple stages over the next few years. The major modificatio0ns include expansion of the footprint of the open pit along with expansion and optimization of the dumps and tailings dam. The above modifications will be carried out by ensuring safety of workers and adjacent communities.
