DS Smith's German Paper Mill Receives Top Honour

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith announced that its paper mill in Aschaffenburg City in Bavaria, Germany received the prestigious ‘Blossoming Company’ Award. The award is in recognition of the company’s outstanding achievements towards protecting environmental resources. The award was distributed at an official ceremony held recently in Feucht near Nuremberg.

DS Smith Paper Deutschland GmbH is the first company in Aschaffenburg and surrounding area to receive the award. Moreover, it is the first Bavarian paper mill to receive the award from the Ministry of Environment and Consumer Protection.

The Aschaffenburg paper mill staff and management have been part of various sustainability initiatives, which has resulted in significant improvement in local environment. The company organized several environmental promotion programs in partnership with the Nature Conservation Authority and various horticulture experts. The programs mainly focused on wildlife and floral conservation. This included removal of plants that are not native to the local environment and installation of insect hotels, which insects use as nest sites.

Commenting on receiving the award, Ulrich Albert MD at DS Smith Paper in Aschaffenburg said that the employees across DS Smith, especially those at Aschaffenburg, are delighted to receive the recognition. The award is a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by its employees, he noted. DS Smith’s work to protect the local environment will continue, he added.
