DS Smith Kemsley Mill Announced New Initiative to Transform Old Safety Boots Into Birdhouses

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The DS Smith team at Kemsley Mill announced new initiative aimed at enhancing the environment around the mill.

The initiative looks at reusing old safety boots to transform them into birdhouses. The safety boots donated by the DS Smith team were transformed into birdhouses, which were installed at the outer edge of the mill, ahead of the nesting season in March. The donated boots were also handed over to Milton Creek Country Park, to be turned into birdhouses.

Mark Page, Civil Supervisor at DS Smith noted that it was a pleasure to be part of the team that installed the birdhouses. The nesting boxes will encourage additional wildlife to the region, he added. Meantime, Caroline Crumley, Community Engagement and Communications Co-ordinator at Kemsley Mill said that the creation of birdhouses demonstrates ongoing commitment by the company to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem around locality of the mill.

The protection and enhancement of environments in which it operates has been one of the major goals in the company’s Now and Next Sustainability Strategy. By 2025, the international packaging company targets to launch 100 biodiversity projects across Europe and North America.
