SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith announced that it has partnered with the multinational snack food company Mondelez in a five-week long Circular Economy Innovation Sprint, along with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF).
During the five weeks, DS Smith and Mondelez worked together to identify opportunities to create customisable circular packaging solutions for Mondelēz’s co-packaging operation. The initiative applied the EMF’s circular economy principles. The entire process focused on three core principles of the circular economy model- reduce, reuse and recycle. The team comprised of three employees of Mondelez and four members from DS Smith’s design and supply chain team.
Stefano Rossi, Divisional CEO for Packaging, DS Smith stated that the Sprint has been a great opportunity for both the companies to apply the archive of circularity principles from the EMF. The solutions demonstrate the commitment of both the companies to instil circularity at all stages of its operations. The Sprint will encourage more companies to take up the mantle of circularity, he added.
It must be noted that DS Smith has been applying Circular Design Principles in its packaging design process, as part of helping its customers prepare for the circular economy.
