SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith- the London-based packaging business announced major investment aimed at increasing its footprint in the Romanian market. It committed investment of over €13 million at its Ghimbav production site. The technical upgrade works are expected to be completed by the end of the current year. It will lead to reduced carbon emissions on site and promote sustainability goals.
The investment in advanced technologies will support the company’s ambitious expansion strategy in Eastern Europe region, thus helping it to achieve leadership position among sustainable packaging solutions providers in the region. Furthermore, it will drive efforts to replace plastics with sustainable products. The investment is expected to significantly boost productivity by increasing the site’s production capacity by almost 20% through installation of cutting-edge machinery.
According to company press release, the upgrades will cut its carbon emissions by 210 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. In addition, it will reduce the site’s total gas consumption by nearly 12%.
Christian Schmidt, Managing Director, DS Smith Packaging Romania noted that the company is thrilled by the investment, which in turn enhance its machinery capabilities and production capacity.
