SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Drax Group- the world’s largest producer and consumer of sustainable biomass announced opening of its new pellet plant at Demopolis in Alabama. This is Drax’s second production facility in Alabama, after the pellet plant at Aliceville in Pickens County. Including Demopolis, the company now operates seven pellet plants in the U.S. South.
The company had invested over $100 million in the new pellet plant. It employed around 350 people during the construction phase. At full capacity, the plant is expected to produce approximately 360,000 tonnes of sustainable biomass pellets per year from sawmill residues such as sawdust, chips and shavings. The plant supports 60 new direct jobs, in addition to hundreds of indirect job opportunities.

Will Gardiner, Drax Group CEO noted that as part of its policy to support the communities where it operates, it is pleased to announce a donation of $100,000 to the Demopolis City Schools Foundation, in order to ensure that all children have access to an excellent education.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said that the wood pellet plant represents a major investment that will drive long-term economic growth and spark significant job creation in Marengo County.
