The existing challenges in the global paper printing market was cited as the reason behind the decision. The closure would result in hundreds of mill workers losing their jobs. Incidentally, the mill currently employs 181 people.
One of the "most modern, high-speed, and efficient" newspaper machines in North America is run by the mill. Newspaper publishers throughout Mexico, Latin America, and the Southeast United States purchase the mill's superior products. Nonetheless, the latest decision to reduce is related to the state of the business.

The company said in a statement that it is taking action to guarantee a safe and orderly production wind-down. Additionally, it will offer the impacted workers and their families all the support they require throughout the transition.
Officials from the city also promised to mobilize resources to support the impacted workers. Although they were disappointed by the company's decision to close, they also thanked it for all of the contributions it had made to the neighborhood over the years. They also praised Domtar for their dedication to helping its impacted employees adapt.
